Rwandan Genocide

  • Throughout the course of 100 days from April 6 to July 16 1994, approximately 800,000 to 1 million Tutsis and some moderate Hutus were massacred in the Rwandan genocide.

Victims of the genocide lay in large gravesides throughout Rwanda

  • During this period, more than 6 men, women and children were murdered every minute of every hour of every day. This efficiency of killing was maintained for more than 3 months.
  • There are between 300,000 to 400,000 survivors of the genocide.
  • Between 250,000 and 500,000 women were raped during the 100 days of genocide. As a result of this rape, up to 20,000 children were born from these women.
  • More than 67% of women who were raped during the genocide were infected with HIV and AIDS. In many cases, this resulted from a systematic and planned use of rape by HIV+ men as a weapon of genocide.
  • There are 10 times as many widows than widowers – almost 50,000 widows of the genocide.
  • Nearly 100,000 survivors are aged between 14 and 21, of which 60,000 are categorised as very vulnerable.
  • 75,000 of survivors were orphaned as a result of the genocide.
  • Due to poverty, over half the children who survived stopped their schooling.
  • 40,000 survivors are still without shelter, many whose homes were destroyed in the genocide.
  • 7 in 10 survivors earn a monthly income of less than 5000 Rwandan Francs (Equivalent to 8 American Dollars)

What Is Good Acting?

Good acting is always staying in character and to become the character that you are playing, it is effecting the audience in a way that is purposeful E.g. They feel empathy for the character. I also think that good acting is partly being yourself to a certain extent when being a character no matter what is going on outside the scene or room. It is also to believe in yourself and the character so the audience believes you to. You could maybe use past experiences to hack how the character is feeling.Good acting comes from the body when acting you should use the entire body. You should always act and play with feeling and try to understand why your character acts and is the way they are never use monotone unless that is your character.

I think that Denzel Washington is a very good actor because when you look into his eyes you see the character you see what the character and him are feeling as though they are one, he looses himself in the character and i think that this is good example of his talent in acting:

What Is Bad Acting?
I think that bad acting is not trying to understand your character and not attempting to find out why your character does certain things and acts a certain way. Bad acting is not being nice and respectful towards others. Don't go to far always make sure everyone is comfortable in what you are performing. Bad acting is not taking on notes of how to improve or not listening to teachers or peers when they have constructive feedback. Speaking without feeling and emotion and visibly not having confidence is also some examples of bad acting. Bad acting is not using your body to full extent and always keep in character and do not come out of character.

I think that it is quite hard to find bad acting as it depends on how you define it, however I think the following scene is quite a good example of what bad acting is because the man in the video did not react appropriately to the situation he was in and didn't use a range of facial expressions to make the scene more realistic:

Skills Audit
I think that I projected my voice quite well and was heard when we did the last activity at the end of the day. I stayed in character most of the time and tried my best not to come out of character however I think that at one point I may have laughed due to the audiences reaction to the piece I was performing.  When I was rehearsing I was very focused as was my group i think that we rehearsed quite well. There was a lot of movement happening in our scene and our performance was seen as a comedy. I think that i am very good at projecting my voice and im not usually quiet. I need to practice at being more confident and becoming the character and not just acting the character.
